Home Farm
Dover, Kent, England
| Description: |
Set in the most idyllic location, amid the Earl of Guilford's
1,200-acre, 18th-century country estate, this imposing seven bedroom
Georgian farmhouse was originally built for the Earl's estate
manager. During the 1950's, the 9th Earl of Guilford moved from
his mansion into the farmhouse, where he subsequently lived for
over 40 years. Recently renovated and refurbished by the present
Earl (the 10th), the property provides the most wonderful base
for a family holiday or get-together. Open fires or ornamental
brick fireplaces feature in most rooms, and there is a superb
spacious kitchen and two dining-rooms in which to dine. Within
the grounds lies an outdoor swimming-pool (unheated), overlooked
by a pool house complete with open fire for the ultimate in relaxation.
Pleasant walks wind through the extensive grounds, and there are
wonderful views over the vast rolling countryside which serves
as a backdrop for this unique holiday destination.
Home Farm is ideally placed for visiting the many popular coastal
towns which pepper the coastline, including Deal, Whitstable,
Herne, Margate, Broadstairs, Ramsgate, Folkestone and Hythe -
each displaying its own charming blend of character and varied
seaside attractions. Just a half-hour drive brings you to the
magnificent cathedral city of Canterbury, where modern shopping
arcades integrate with historic stone and timbered buildings within
the medieval city walls. For those seeking a day on the continent,
Eurotunnel and Dover can be reached within 15 minutes. Scenic
country walks can be enjoyed in the Kent countryside. Golf at
nearby Sandwich. Pub ¼ mile.
