| Description: |
This elegant and very comfortable, detached 17th-century house
has its own garden with pond, patio and fig tree, and is just
5 miles from the sea. Once the farmhouse to the adjacent working
farm, it offers spacious and beautifully furnished family accommodation
in an area of Cornwall with an outstanding variety of attractions. The
market town of Callington (5 miles) nestles between the Tamar
and Lynher rivers. Its 15th-century chapel enclosed Dupath Well,
with a reputation for curing whooping cough. Kit Hill is to the
north, with nature trails and spectacular views of the rugged
granite moorland of Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor. East and West Looe
(10 miles) are joined by a seven-arched bridge. This is a visitor
resort of character, with several sandy beaches, a bustling quayside,
and the unique Banjo Pier. It is also a shark angling center with
two museums, a monkey sanctuary and a mechanical music collection
at St Keyne. Liskeard is also a busy market town, once linked
by canal to Looe. Its church, Guildhall and Stuart House are of
particular interest, as are its 16th-century Pipe Well and Dobwalls
Family Adventure Park. There is a wonderfully scenic rail link
to Looe from Liskeard. To the south, the Rame peninsula is often
referred to as the forgotten corner of Cornwall - a haven for
those who enjoy the slower pace of life in the countryside, with
walking, bird-watching, fishing or just lazing around. Plymouth
(9 miles) has big city attractions, theatres, cinemas and a wealth
of history. There are regular ferries to Ireland and northern
Spain from Plymouth. The farmhouse is well placed for sailing,
with the Tamar estuary a short drive. There are local pubs and
shops within a mile, and one of England's finest golf courses
at St Mellion (4 miles).
